What gym do you fight out of?
ISMA in Chandler, AZ under Chris Lopez.

Who is your favorite fighter to watch in the Octagon? Why?
George St. Pierre hands down! He is my role model and arguably the most complete fighter to ever step into the octagon. I am mad right now because I have to work on the night of his match next weekend against Dan Hardy. He is an amazing fighter and seems like a cool person. I think that you have to have an edge inside the cage but that you should be a cool down to earth person outside of the cage. Being a fighter to me is like being a super-hero, you have your hero persona and your alter-ego. I watch a lot of film on St. Pierre and try to incorporate his moves and techniques into my fight game. I would love to reach the level of success that he has.

In your opinion, who is the best fighter pound for pound?
I would say George-St. Pierre because he is the most complete fighter. He has virtually no wrestling background and is considered the best wrestler in the UFC. His striking is so fast and accurate, and he continues to perfect every aspect of his game. I study his film more than any other fighter.

In your free time, what could we find you doing?
You would probably find me at the local Harkins Theatre watching a new movie, or out in old town Scottsdale hanging out with friends. I often like to do relaxing things, but once or twice a week I just want to be out where there are a lot of people so that I can socialize and relieve some stress. I also try to get out to California whenever possible to visit my friends and family and to relax on the beach. There is nothing I have found in this world that is as relaxing as lying on the beach and listening to the ocean waves.

If you weren’t a fighter, what would you be?
I think I have always been a fighter and a warrior at heart and that is why I competed in several sports and got through a lot of tough times in life. It is like Achilles says in the movie Troy, "I chose nothing, I was born and this is what I am." I do think that it would be cool to be a homicide detective and I may pursue a career in law enforcement when my fighting career is over. I am sure if I really sat down and thought about it, I could find a few careers that interest me, but I would not want to be anything but a fighter right now at this point in my life.

What is your diet like?
I try to eat healthy, fruits and vegetables and lean meats. I give myself a cheat day once a week and splurge on cheeseburgers and pizza usually. I have to make sure that I never get too far above my fight weight of 185 pounds. Right now I am walking around at 200lbs.

What’s your predictions on your next 3 fights?
Wins, God willing. I would like to get fight of the night again like I did for my first fight.

Do you want me to come work with you on your sparring?
Sure. I am always looking for new sparring partners because it only benefits me to practice against as many styles as possible. That is how one becomes a well-rounded fighter.

Why MMA? Why fight?
It is a great sport that is unlike any other because you don't have a team. It is just you and the fighter across from you in the ring. Also, the fans have treated me so well whether I won or lost and I don't see that in other sports I have played. I have loved MMA since my first training session and it is very rewarding in so many ways. It is the fastest growing sport and there are so many opportunities for fighters to earn money doing this. I think it is just what I was born to do.

Is there anything special that pushes you or motivates?
The love and support of my immediate family, as well as that of my ISMA family, motivates me to strive to be successful in this sport. When the people that are closest to you are behind you and believe in you then you believe that anything is possible. That is so important when you are an athlete. I am also a very driven person, and I always want to achieve the highest level of success in everything that I put my heart and soul into.

When do you fight next? and against who?
I am hoping to fight at Gila River Casino in the Rage in the Cage event scheduled for June. This should be my final amateur bout before going pro. I will begin my camp for the fight at the end of April/beginning of May. I typically train twice a day for a minimum of six weeks prior to a fight. I won't know until fight night who my opponent is.
